CGNA Hosts Candidates & Community Forum

On Thursday, May 5, the College-Glen Neighborhood Association hosted a Candidate and Community Forum at the Station 60 Firehouse.  The evening began at 6:30 pm with light refreshments and socializing, then the program kicked off at 6:45 pm with an update from CGNA President Annette Deglow speaking to a full house.  She discussed the CGNA Foundation’s efforts to raise funds for five police observation device (POD) cameras, to be placed at various entrances to the neighborhood.  This effort is in partnership with the Sacramento City police department and is supported by 90% of residents who responded to a recent survey.  To date, the Foundation has raised $5,785, and each camera will cost the Foundation $6,000.  Annette also provided an update on cell tower funds and CGNA’s complaints filed with the Sacramento County Grand Jury alleging the misuse of these funds.

After the CGNA update, attendees heard from the following candidates running for various seats in the primary election on Tuesday, June 7, 2016:

  • Sacramento Mayor: Darrell Steinberg, Tony Lopez, Angelique Ashby
  • Sacramento County Board of Supervisors District 3: Susan Peters, Shaun Dillon
  • S. House of Representatives District 6: Mario Galvan, Yuriy Seretskiy
  • State Assembly District 7: Kevin McCarty
  • Sacramento County Board of Education Area 5: Al Brown
  • City Council District 6: Eric Guerra

During her presentation, Supervisor Susan Peters reported that Sacramento County Chief Probation Officer Lee Seale has pledged to contribute $6,000 to the POD camera effort.

After attendees had the opportunity to hear from each of the candidates, Assembly Member Kevin McCarty and Councilmember Eric Guerra moderated an open forum question and answer session.

While CGNA does not endorse any candidates, we aim to facilitate discussion about issues of importance to the residents in our community.
