Recap of CGNA 2014 Annual Meeting and Candidates Forum

The Association’s 2014 Annual meeting drew a full house in the Fire Station 60 garage. First on the agenda was the election of Association Officers and Directors. Annette Deglow, John Deglow, Randy Hood, and Linda Wood were re-elected as President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary respectively. Stacy Turner, Pat & Ron DeRobertis, Michelle & Won Chang, Katie-Hood Curry, Heidi & Steve O’Connor, Linda Boyles and James Lewis were elected to serve as directors. Officers for the Association are elected annually while Directors are elected to three-year terms with one-third of the Directors being elected each year. The Association received 103 vote cards all supporting the nominees listed. Following the election, the Association presented its annual update on membership. The Association received contributions from 541 residents and had 60 community business sponsors by the end of 2014.

During the past year the Association co-sponsored National Family Night Out and Movie Night in the Park with Councilmember McCarty. CGNA officers served as judges of the bands in the Sacramento Veteran’s Day Parade. The Association supported school programs and activities such as NEA’s Read Across America, the McClaskey Parent Participation Toddler and Pre-school programs, the Bancroft Early Kinder program, and the Bancroft recycling program. The association continued to represent the area on the Power Inn Alliance and the CSUS Traffic Advisory Committee. The Association supported community activities including the Sacramento SPCA’s Doggy Dash, UC Davis K9 Blood Donor program, College Glen Little League, Fall Ball, BAC Soccer, and Sacramento Valley Youth Rugby. Lastly, CGNA officers worked closely with Sacramento City Staff, Police and Fire on issues of community concern.

Following presentation of the Annual Report, those attending heard from candidates for the 2014 State Assembly District 7 seat: Steve Cohn, and Kevin McCarty; Assemblymember Dr. Richard Pan and Assemblymember Roger Dickinson, both candidates for the 2014 State Senate District 6 seat; Jeffrey Cuneo and Ellen Cochrane for Sacramento City Unified School District Trustee Area 2; and Mario Guerrero, Carl Burton and Gregg Fishman for SMUD Board Member Ward 3. Daniel Conway spoke in favor of Measure L and Former Sacramento Mayor Heather Fargo spoke in opposition of Measure L.

After the candidate presentations, SPD Lieutenants Glen Faulkner, and Alisa Buckley addressed bike safety, illegal camping & associated fire danger, camera surveillance and the City’s new homeless program. Guests also heard from Christina Pritchett Area 3 representative for the City Unified School District; Sacramento County School District trustees: Greg Geeting, Jacquelyn Levy and Tomaysa Glover; and Fire Department Captain Ghazanfari spoke on fire safety in the home. Board member Rebekah Cearley, a legislative advocate, provided an update on legislative issues activities at the State Capitol. Councilmember Kevin McCarty and Assemblymember Roger Dickinson each gave a update of their activities this past year and then facilitated a question and answer session for the balance of the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 8:45 pm.
